Bird Health Guarantee & Adoption Policy
Our Commitment to Healthy Birds
We are committed to placing healthy, well-socialized birds into loving homes. Before any bird is available for adoption, it is carefully observed to ensure it shows no signs of parasites, contagious diseases, congenital deformities, or viral, bacterial, or fungal infections. Every bird receives the care and attention needed to give it the best possible start in its new home.
Because the health and well-being of every bird are our priority, we strongly encourage adopters to schedule a wellness examination with a qualified avian veterinarian soon after bringing their new companion home.
Health Guarantee
Every adopted bird is covered by our 5-day limited health guarantee, beginning on the day the bird is collected or delivered.
If an avian-certified veterinarian determines that your bird has a serious health condition that existed before the adoption date, we will review the veterinary findings and, where appropriate, offer either:
- A replacement bird of similar value, or
- A full refund of the adoption fee.
To make a claim, the bird must be returned along with a written report from an avian-certified veterinarian. The report must be printed on the veterinarian’s official letterhead, signed and stamped, and include the bird’s species, identification band number, diagnosis, and confirmation that the condition existed prior to adoption.
If Your Bird Passes Away
Although this is extremely rare, if your bird passes away during the health guarantee period, please contact us immediately.
The bird should be wrapped in paper towels, placed in a sealed plastic bag, and refrigerated. Do not freeze the bird, as freezing may prevent an accurate examination.
A licensed avian veterinarian must perform a necropsy (post-mortem examination) within the required timeframe. The veterinarian’s report must clearly state the cause of death and confirm that the condition originated before the bird was adopted.
Photographs or videos of the bird, along with the identification band information, may also be required before a replacement or refund can be considered.
Veterinary Costs
The adopter is responsible for all veterinary examinations, treatments, laboratory testing, and necropsy fees.
Transportation and delivery costs are non-refundable unless otherwise agreed in writing.
Identification Band
Each bird is fitted with an identification band for verification purposes.
Removing the band before a health claim is completed will void the guarantee unless an avian veterinarian confirms in writing that removal was medically necessary. The veterinary report must include the original band number and explain why the band was removed.
Quarantine and Veterinary Examination
To protect your new bird and any birds already living in your home, we strongly recommend quarantining your new companion for at least 30 days.
During this period:
- Keep the bird in a separate room whenever possible.
- Do not share food or water dishes with other birds.
- Wash your hands before handling different birds.
- Arrange an examination with an avian-certified veterinarian within 24 hours of adoption.
If you have owned other birds within the past year, please inform your veterinarian, as certain avian diseases can survive in the environment for extended periods.
Baby Birds and Weaning
Some young birds may still be completing the weaning process when they are reserved. Fully weaned birds are able to eat independently, maintain a healthy weight, and no longer require hand-feeding before moving to their new home.
If you choose to reserve an unweaned baby bird, additional care and experience will be required. A weaning fee may apply depending on the bird’s species and age. Please contact us for further information.
Conditions That Void the Health Guarantee
The health guarantee will become void if:
- The bird is not examined by an avian-certified veterinarian within 24 hours of adoption.
- The bird is not properly quarantined from other birds.
- The identification band is removed without veterinary approval.
- The bird suffers illness or injury due to neglect, improper care, poor nutrition, or accidental harm.
- Required veterinary documentation is not provided within the guarantee period.
Our Adoption Promise
Our goal is to match healthy, well-cared-for birds with responsible and loving families. We are committed to supporting adopters before and after adoption and are always happy to answer questions about your bird’s care, nutrition, and well-being.
Thank you for choosing to adopt and for giving one of our birds a safe, caring, and lifelong home.
